Focus Area: Standard 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
During my practicum I was actively involved in various professional learning meetings; I attended regular stage meetings, spirals of inquiry sessions, exec project meetings which was focused on improving teacher feedback and also learning support sessions. It was through these meetings that I gained a greater understanding and deepened my knowledge of the professional teaching standards. I believe attending these meetings helped me reflect and improve on my own teaching pedagogies immensely as I understood the importance of professional development. Through these meetings I was able to engage with professional member of the teaching staff and develop my teaching practices through their insight, knowledge and experience and later implement them within my own lessons.
Overall, I have gained an substantial amount of knowledge through attending these regular meetings. I personally feel that they have helped contribute to my beliefs and values as a teacher. While attending these meeting I learnt a lot about behavioural management and teaching strategies. I also depended my understanding on why goal setting and constructive feedback is important for students, and the different ways I can implement them within the classroom. Moreover, I had the opportunity to help organise and facilitate the Kindergarten 2020 orientation which I found very informative, I also had the chance to help out at the student's colour run on the last day of my practicum. These different experiences and meeting helped me improve my teaching practices through observation and discussions with other teachers and supervisors.
