Standard 3: Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
Focus Area: 3.4 Select and use resources
Reflection:
Throughout my professional placement I continuously planned and implemented a wide range of resources including ICT into my lessons to help engage students in their learning. Technology continues to rapidly evolve and is entwined in all parts of our lives (Raja & Nagasubramani, 2018) this is why it is essential that students have use of it in the classroom in order to explore, develop and learn different skills. I personally believe integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect with students and create a meaningful and fun learning experience (Raja & Nagasubramani, 2018). During my professional placement I planned and organised computer lab sessions where students could develop basic computer literacy skills. Students would first write a recount of their weekend in their writing books and then would transfer it into a Microsoft Word document. Students seemed to enjoy the various features of Microsoft Word; sizing and colour and loved sharing their work with their peers. I also implemented ICT through the use other tools such as; an interactive hundreds chart during numeracy lessons, transition countdown songs off Youtube, quick brain break dances, and also online books for shared reading experiences. I personally feel as though the use of these different ICT tools were an engaging way to get students motivated and involved in their learning.
While planning my lessons, I researched a range of different activities and resources that would help enhance my student’s overall engagement and meet the required learning outcomes/goals. This meant that I had to create various resources and activities that students would use for numeracy lessons and also L3 reading/writing rotations. During numeracy lessons I used a wide range of resources to help support students learning (unifix cubes, dominos, ten frame dice, and I even created various resources such as; number cards and measuring tapes). During L3 rotations I created activities which focused on fine motor skills (e.g. cue tip painting and a playdough writing tray), handwriting, phonemic awareness and developmental play. Through my experience, I found that providing students with new and exciting resources each day kept students engaged and motivated, therefore they would work responsibly and stay on task.

Above is evidence that supports how I met the "Australian Professional Standards of Teaching' 3.4. I have provided photo evidence of students working on the computers, an image of the interactive hundreds chart students used during whole class mathematics activities, an image of number apples which I used for a numeracy lesson (number range was differentiated) and also documentation of my final report and lesson feedback sheets which state how I had effectively implemented a wide range of resources in my lessons.
